Professor Oliphant
PUNCH AND JUDY SHOW
Traditional Puppet Shows by Professor Oliphant
Craig Oliphant has been an educator and performer for over 40 years. He sings and plays ukulele with children in the River East Transcona School Division. He recently created a “Punch and Judy” puppet show for the United Kingdom Pavilion for Folklorama 2019.
Punch and Judy is a traditional puppet show featuring Mr. Punch and his wife Judy. The performance consists of a sequence of short scenes, each depicting an interaction between two characters, most typically Mr. Punch and one other character who usually falls victim to Punch's slapstick. It is often associated with traditional British culture. The various episodes of Punch comedy—often provoking shocked laughter—are dominated by the clowning of Mr. Punch.
The show is performed by a single puppeteer inside the booth, known since Victorian times as a "professor" or "punchman", engagements at private parties or public events. In modern shows, the audience is encouraged to participate, calling out to the characters on the stage to warn them of danger or clue them into what is going on behind their backs.

Jake’s wide variety of musical and cultural experiences, from his French-Canadian heritage to his travels in Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America are evident in his lively performances making him recognizable as one of Manitoba’s finest family performers. Whether he is performing in English or in French, Jake’s multi-cultural experiences bring an added depth to his exceptional musicianship and winning performance style.
He’s met a monkey, climbed an active volcano — twice! – and swam in the sea with a rainbow of fish. Now Jake’s adventures in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Thailand have blossomed into Walking in the Sun, a sunny collection of catchy new sing-a-long tunes for the whole family.
This Juno Award nominated album was inspired by the beauty of Mother Nature and the creatures — big and small — who dance in her skies, walk on her sand, and swim in her seas. This magical recording offers many musical styles including calypso, reggae, and Cajun.
The John Lennon International Song Writing Contest honored Jake with a Grand Prize for the song “Buzz Buzzity Buzz”. He was also presented with an honorable mention for another composition entitled “Ghost in the House” which gave him two songs in the top 50 out of over 1,500 entries.
Dedicated to the educational entertainment of children, Jake Chénier has been warmly received in hundreds of schools, fairs, and festivals across Canada, North and South Dakota and Florida. Jake’s multimedia planetarium show Dancing With The Dinosaurs has garnished rave reviews and has distribution in Canada and the United States.
Jake’s spirited concerts encourage children of all ages to join in the fun, combining sing-along and action songs with on stage participation, juggling, and storytelling. Musical instrumentation includes guitar, charango (Latin stringed instrument), ukulele, and assorted percussion instruments.
Jake Chénier has independently released four recordings - Dancing With The Dinosaurs, Pizza Paradise, Content d’être moi (greatest hits in French) and Walking in the Sun. These recordings capture Jake’s infectious musical style in an eclectic mix of original bluegrass, folk, reggae, rap, calypso, Cajun, and good old rock ‘n roll.
Adam Kirk
Comedy, Acoustic, Pop, Rock
Adam Kirk is a storyteller of many talents, an artist, entertainer, singer, and songwriter. With a blue bird guitar that he painted himself which looks as “sparkly” as it sounds, Adam sings the songs he writes, as well as classic crowd pleasers he learned from the internet, plus some parodies of hit tunes with original lyrics that he thinks are hilarious. From the Led Zeppelin inspired epic power ballad “Stairway to Sasquatch” and Buffy Sainte-Marie meets a galaxy far, far away in “Universal Stormtrooper” to Bon Jovi’s prehistoric slow jam “You Want to Make a Dinosaur” and more which I won’t spoil by mentioning here.
With an emphasis on comedy, in case you had not figured that out by now, and a flair for the dramatic, Kirk uses giant interactive puppets in his performances such a life size T-Rex (Just the head. Don’t get too excited!) and a larger than life octopus puppet that takes nine people to bring to life. That’s right, folks. Audience participation is a big part of an Adam Kirk show, which is designed to be enjoyable for all ages. Tiptoeing the tightrope of being equally suitable for kids as well as adults, but no actual tight rope walking… yet.
Often seen performing in medieval armor because it makes him feel powerful (and safe from tomatoes. Just in case.), and wearing prosthetic pointy ears because he is a huge fantasy nerd with an affinity for elven culture, but the best part is: Adam Kirk is not only a rising parody pop-rock star; he is also one of Canada’s most in demand caricature artists, and can be booked after the show to sit down with audience members face to face one on one to draw everybody. What? Are you serious? Yes. I am being very serious right now. This performer is also a caricaturist and has made it his mission to blow the minds and open the hearts, third eyes, and crown chakras of people everywhere. Book Adam Kirk to perform and draw at your next event with Amazing Entertainment.

All the World's a Drum
Drum Workshop
One person's junk is another’s music. That's right; this workshop explores the world of "found sounds". Featured on numerous occasions at the Winnipeg International Children’s festival, and at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, this highly interactive workshop can be tailored to your event’s or organization’s needs: the number of participants, age groups and duration. The participants will enjoy exploring the world of composing and playing music in a very energetic and team-oriented environment. Dad and Kid
Father & Son Duo
Tim Barlow (Dad) writes and performs songs with his 8 year old son Sebastian (Kid) exploring themes of imagination, emotions, love and nature. Music is central to Dad and Kid’s world and getting their songs out there to a larger audience is all part of the fun. Tim has 20 years on-stage experience across Europe and Canada, most recently fronting Winnipeg folk-collective Few Who Do. After starting a family it was a natural progression to write and perform children’s music. Recently described as the English Fred Penner, Tim juggles stories of family life with nursery rhymes and movement songs to engage the audience in a campfire sing-a-long experience. Since the release of their first album 'Play By Ear' in 2017, Dad and Kid can be found teaching adults and kids a-like how to be penguins drinking tea at birthday parties, campfires, festivals, coffee shops, libraries and schools in and around Winnipeg.
Aaron Burnett
Juno Nominated Kids Performer
Aaron Burnett has a wealth of experience in early years education. Throughout his teaching career, Aaron always used his acoustic guitar and his love of music to enrich the learning of the students in his care. When not educating children he has performed across Canada with some of Manitoba's best known bluegrass musicians from the Slavek Hanzlik Band to The Ain't No Mountain Boys, The Keystone Bluegrass Quartet and most recently The Dry River Boys.
In an effort to promote bluegrass to a young audience, Aaron decided to create an "album". Taking advantage of his teaching experience, he used the high interest topic of animals native to Canada as his theme for his first children's recording. With a deep love for outdoor activities and wildlife, this seemed a natural place to begin. Having a 'captive' audience to try the songs on proved to be very advantageous as well as educational.
In March of 2001, Aaron began to record the songs he had written opting for traditional bluegrass instrumentation and vocal harmony. He wanted to expose the kids to the rhythmic melodies of bluegrass music as experience had taught him that kids truly enjoyed this genre of music once they heard it. The self-produced recording project was completed in June 2001. The result ... 13 wonderful songs and the CD entitled, 'Call of the Wild'.
In February 2002, 'Call of the Wild' was nominated for a Juno Award as Best Children's Recording in Canada. Aaron was honored to attend the Juno in St. John's, Newfoundland. Upon his return from the Junos, he played a variety of events around Manitoba including the Winnipeg International Children's Festival and the Winnipeg Folk Festival. In September '02, 'Call of the Wild' received further recognition being nominated for a Prairie Music Award as outstanding children's recording.
In 2003, Aaron's travel was restricted by his teaching job however, come summer Aaron was able to extend his "home range" to include Alberta and British Columbia. Because of Call of the Wild's "ecological integrity", Aaron was highly sought after by the national parks and he was honoured to play in Yoho, Banff, and Jasper. In this "western tour", he was the featured children's performer at western Canada's largest bluegrass festival in Stony Plain, AB.
In 2004, Aaron released his second children's recording, "Get Off the Couch". This wonderful CD is a collection of music with Aaron backed by the musically talented bluegrass musicians, "The Dry River Boys" with Clint Dutiuame guesting on fiddle. Two of Manitoba's finest singers: 17 years old, Katherine Penfold along with two times Juno Award winner Steve Bell harmonize beautifully with Aaron on several cuts.
Having recently "graduated" from more than 20 years in elementary school, Aaron is finally able to do what he loves best... sing and play guitar. He looks forward to continue entertaining in Manitoba and extending his performances across Canada.
Seanster and the Monsters
Kindie, Zany, Children's Performer
Stuck somewhere between They Might be Giants and Fred Penner, Sean Hogan (Seanster) is always coming up with new ways to engage and entertain crowds both young and old. A children's performer for over ten years, this prairie boy has been nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award (in his previous band, Alphabet Soup), was a semi-finalist for the 2012 International Songwriting Competition, and has been a venue and festival favourite all over Manitoba and Northern Ontario (the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Kenora Harbourfest, West End Cultural Centre, and the Dryden Teddy Bear's Picnic, just to name a few) . Now, with Seanster and the Monsters, he's been joined by some of the best performers in Manitoba to create a sound that is pleasing to the ears of children and parents alike.
While some may scoff at the idea that a grown man and his merry band of fools can have so much fun singing songs about such silly things as home-made robots, flying kittens and little girls who want the moon, audiences agree that Seanster and the Monsters are proving to the world that family music can be fun for everyone!
