Bieber Fever - Tribute to Justin Bieber It was only a matter of time before the very young and multi-talented Justin Bieber would take over the pop-R&B world. Discovered on the internet at age 12—thanks to some home videos posted on You Tube—he quickly wound up the protégé to R&B superstar Usher, and has since become a huge celebrity in his own right, beating out his mentor for ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2010 American Music Awards. Justin’s debut release, My World—which includes the mega-hit One Time—was certified platinum in the United States, making him the first artist to have seven songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100. His first full studio release, My World 2.0, has since received similar success, debuting at number one and within the top ten of several countries—as well as being certified platinum in the United States. His worldwide top-ten single, Baby is his biggest hit to date. Justin Bieber possesses a natural musicality and stage presence that is reminiscent of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson in their heyday. It’s no wonder that ‘Bieber Fever’ provokes the same tears of joy and excited screams that Justin’s predecessors received.

Bad Romance - Tribute to Lady Gaga

It’s been a while since a new pop artist has made her way in the music industry the old-fashioned/grass roots way by paying her dues with seedy club gigs and self-promotion. This is one rising pop star who hasn’t been plucked from a model casting call, born into a famous family, won a reality TV singing contest, or emerged from a teen cable TV sitcom. “I did this the way you are supposed to. I played every club in New York City and I bombed in every club and then killed it in every club and I found myself as an artist. I learned how to survive as an artist, get real, and how to fail and then figure out who I was as singer and performer. And, I worked hard.”

Good Girl Gone Bad - Tribute to Rihanna

Pop diva Rihanna is one of the hottest singers to captivate the music scene in recent years; her powerhouse vocals and provocative performances are continually enchanting audiences around the globe. The singer’s unique musical style combines a variety of genres (R&B, dancehall and reggae) with undeniably catchy pop hooks that often catapult her name to the top of the charts.

Rihanna was born on the Caribbean island of Barbados and began singing at age 7. By age 14, she and two of her classmates had formed an all-girl group exhibiting a similar look and sound to the band Destiny’s Child. However, Rihanna, like Beyoncé Knowles before her, possessed a star power that outshone her bandmates, and the blossoming performer was eventually signed as a solo artist to the Def Jam record label in New York.

Her debut album, Music of the Sun, pays homage to Rihanna’s island heritage. It was released in August 2005 and reached number 10 on the Billboard 200, selling over two million copies worldwide. The album’s lead single, ‘Pon de Replay’, shot to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became 2005’s summer dance club anthem. Since then, Rihanna has released five more albums, showing her versatility as an artist by reinventing her image and sound with every release.

To this chameleon from the Caribbean, variety truly is the spice of life, and she’s forever seeking to chart new waters. It’s no surprise that she was recently named the top selling digital artist of all time, surpassing her idol—and the Queen of reinvention—Madonna. And yet amidst all of her successes, Rihanna remains grounded and eternally committed to referencing her beloved roots.

Britney...One More Time - A tribute to Britney Spears

Following in the fancy footsteps of her childhood idols—Madonna and Janet Jackson—singer, dancer and megastar Britney Spears has positioned herself as the Princess of Pop for Generation Next. The best selling female artist of the 2000s, she has sold 100 million records worldwide and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Britney began her journey to pop stardom at the tender age 3, in her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana. Doting ‘stage mom’ Lynn Spears enrolled a young Britney in dance lessons initially, and by age 5, the budding performer was singing in—and winning—many state-level talent competitions. The tiny tot with the mature vocal range went on to compete on the televised talent show ‘Star Search’ and her triple threat abilities took centre stage on the revived 'Mickey Mouse Club' variety show.

But it wasn’t until Britney turned 17 that she became a household name, upon the release of her debut album, ‘Baby One More Time’. During a phase when overzealous pop groups like Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys dominated the charts, Britney’s innocent yet independent spirit was a breath of fresh air—and reminiscent of her idols in their younger days. Baby One More Time’s first single and title track sold 500,000 copies on its first day and the album became the best-selling album ever released by a teenager.

Over a decade later, Britney Spears is still a young woman, but has established herself as an industry veteran, showing considerable strength while riding the roller coaster of fame. She holds the longest time span of number ones on the Mainstream Top 40 chart (over 12 years) and her seventh studio album, ‘Femme Fatale’, was released in March 2011 to rave critical reviews. No longer the little girl chasing a big dream, she has been handed the torch by her iconic predecessors and continues the legacy by inspiring a new crop of pop divas—including the likes of Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga.
